Cookware with a ferromagnetic base that can be heated by an induction cooktop. Test by putting a refrigerator magnet on the bottom. If it sticks firmly, the pan will work on induction. Aluminum and pure copper will not.

A motor type used in heavy duty stand mixers that runs quietly, lasts decades, and handles stiff doughs without bogging. Distinct from the universal motors in cheaper mixers, which are louder and more prone to overheating under load.

The rated hours a light emitting diode holds at least 70 percent of its original brightness. Quality LEDs last 25,000 to 50,000 hours. Cheap fixtures often fail at the driver long before the LED itself fades.

Audio that has been compressed without discarding data, using formats like FLAC, ALAC, or WAV. Streaming tiers like Apple Music Lossless deliver files that are bit perfect to the master. Bluetooth codecs currently cannot carry true lossless audio.

A measurement of total light output from a bulb or fixture. A traditional 60 watt incandescent puts out about 800 lumens. Higher lumens mean a brighter room. For context, watts only measure energy use, not brightness.

The maximum oven temperature a pan, dish, or handle can tolerate. Silicone handles often cap out around 400 Fahrenheit. Phenolic handles may cap at 350. Cast iron and bare stainless tolerate much higher. Always check the spec before broiling.

Polyethylene terephthalate. A clear, lightweight plastic commonly used in reusable water bottles and blender jars. Recyclable, BPA free, and tolerates moderate heat but is not dishwasher safe on the top rack for long term use.

Cookware that does not use perfluorooctanoic acid in its nonstick coating. PFOA was phased out of US cookware manufacturing by 2013 and is no longer a common concern on new pans. PFAS free is the stricter modern label, covering a broader family of fluorinated compounds.

A vacuum metric usually expressed in pascals or air watts. Pascals measure static pressure at the intake. Air watts combine pressure and airflow and are the more honest number. Budget robot vacuums sit around 2000 Pa. Strong units reach 4000 Pa or more.

The band of ultraviolet light a nail lamp emits, typically 365 nm, 395 nm, or a dual band mix. Most modern gel polishes cure best under dual wavelength LEDs. Single wavelength lamps will leave some brands tacky no matter how long you cure.
