Are smart plugs safe to use with high wattage appliances?

Most smart plugs are rated for 15 amps / 1800 watts, which safely handles lamps, fans, TVs, coffee makers, and small heaters. Never plug in space heaters that draw more than 1500W, high powered hair dryers, or any appliance that exceeds the plug's rated amperage. Check the wattage of your appliance before connecting it. For appliances with motors (like air conditioners or refrigerators), verify that the smart plug supports inductive loads some cheaper plugs struggle with the startup surge.
